Hi, my name is Alex, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for someone dear to me and to our community, Elizabeth.
I know Elizabeth through my prenatal and postnatal yoga classes, where she has been a steady, warm, and deeply devoted presence. She shows up with so much care for herself, for her daughters, and for the other mothers around her. She is the kind of person who inspires by her quiet strength and devotion to her girls.
Elizabeth is a single mother to her one-year-old twin girls. Recently, she received a diagnosis of breast cancer and will be starting six months of intensive chemotherapy and immunotherapy immediately, followed by surgery and radiation.
As you can imagine, this is an incredibly demanding and vulnerable time, physically, emotionally, and logistically.
Before her diagnosis, Elizabeth had planned to stay home with her girls until returning to her work as an elementary school teacher in September. Now, her focus needs to shift toward her health and treatment, while still caring for her two young daughters.
Her family is doing everything they can to support her from out of province. In addition, a close friend from British Columbia, who works as a nurse, has generously offered to come for two weeks each month between her shifts to help care for the girls. We would love to help cover the cost of these flights so this essential support can continue.
There are also many unknowns ahead. Childcare will need to be arranged in the short term, which may come with high costs. And as her energy will be limited during treatment, daily routines will need to shift. Things like moving from cloth diapering to disposables will create additional, ongoing expenses.
This fundraiser is here to help ease some of that weight.
Funds raised will go toward:
Travel costs for her friend providing in-person support
Childcare during treatment
Everyday essentials for her twin girls (diapers, wipes, etc.)
General living expenses during this period
If you can contribute, thank you. If not, sharing this page or sending a message of support means just as much.
It truly takes a village, and right now, she could use hers.
With gratitude,
Alex Negru
