Help Liz Stay Stable While She Rebuilds
$1,905 raised of $3.5K
Hi, I'm Liz!
I’m an environmental scientist and programs professional with more than a decade of experience working on environmental protection, water resources, regulatory compliance, and conservation throughout Appalachia. I’ve spent much of my career doing work I care deeply about - supporting communities, protecting streams and wetlands, and helping organizations and projects navigate complex environmental challenges.
Over the past several years, however, I’ve developed a number of significant health challenges that have increasingly affected my ability to work consistently. After a recent job loss, I found myself in an especially difficult transition: I’m working through the process of applying for disability and vocational support while also exploring ways to return to meaningful work in a structure that is sustainable for my health.
That process takes time, and in the meantime I’m facing a period without reliable income.
I’m asking for help not because I’ve given up on working or moving forward, but because I’m trying to give myself enough stability to do that thoughtfully rather than losing my housing and basic necessities while I navigate this transition.
Funds raised will help me cover essential expenses such as:
• Rent and housing costs
• Utilities and household necessities
• Food and groceries
• Medical and healthcare-related expenses
• Transportation and other basic day-to-day needs
• Costs associated with rebuilding a sustainable work situation
My goal is stability - not simply getting through one difficult month. I’m actively pursuing the resources, accommodations, and work options that can help me become financially independent again while allowing me to work within my current limitations.
If you know me professionally or personally, you probably know that I’m someone who likes to contribute, solve problems, and help other people. Having to ask for help myself has been difficult, but I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped me get this far.
If you’re able to contribute, even a small amount can help me keep the essentials covered while I work toward a more stable future. If donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser with someone who might be able to help is genuinely valuable.
There are also other ways to support me. I’m always grateful for leads on remote, flexible, accessibility-conscious work; help navigating resources and paperwork; and connections to people or organizations that may be able to help me build a sustainable path forward. I also have photography and artwork available to share.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, share it, donate, or simply check in. Every bit of support helps me create the breathing room I need to keep moving forward
With gratitude,
Liz
