Help Elizabeth Recover After a Massive Stroke
Hi Everyone,
My name is Lourdes Viaes. I am reaching out on behalf of my beloved cousin, Elizabeth Afonso — a devoted single mother whose life changed in an instant.
On July 31st, Elizabeth suffered a massive stroke caused by a dissected aneurysm. She was rushed to the ICU at RVH, where doctors gave a very grim prognosis and told us to prepare for the worst. But Elizabeth is a fighter — against all odds, she has made it this far and continues to bravely battle every day in intensive care.
Elizabeth has suffered brain damage and will face long-term deficits. Her journey ahead will be long and difficult, requiring intensive rehabilitation, home modifications, and ongoing care support. Recently separated, she no longer has access to extended health benefits, leaving her and her three children especially vulnerable during this time.
Elizabeth is determined to recover — her children need their mom. Our family wants to ensure she has access to all the therapies and supports not covered by OHIP, giving her the best possible chance at regaining independence and stability.
The financial burden is overwhelming. Funds raised will go directly toward:
Household expenses to keep life stable for her children
Medical costs and rehabilitation not covered by insurance
Home modifications and care support
Elizabeth is a loving mother, a resilient fighter, and someone who has always been there for others. Now, she needs us.
Whether it’s a donation, sharing resources, or keeping her in your prayers, we are deeply grateful for any support you can give.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
