Hi, my name is Carina Ramirez, and I'm fundraising for my mom. On March 22nd, my mom had an unexpected fall and was unable to get herself up; on March 23rd, I took my mom to her doctor to get checked out. She quickly sent us to SwedishAmerican Hospital, where they did many scans and found a large pituitary tumor, and they rapidly arranged transfer to UW Health University Hospital.

Immediately they put a drain to help with extra fluid and swelling in her brain and planned for two different surgeries to remove the tumor because of its size. It took a couple of weeks for the swelling to come down enough to do the first surgery safely. On March 31st, after a six-hour surgery, they removed about 40% of the tumor. She was somewhat stable for a few days; her neurosurgeon decided to proceed with the second surgery on April 9th. After eight very long hours, they removed the rest of the tumor.

Unfortunately, she developed an allergic reaction to Heparin during surgery which caused many complications, and she had to remain intubated for a couple of weeks. During this time, she had a series of mini strokes, which caused paralysis in her left side of the body. Eventually, she could breathe on own and intubation tube was removed, which caused a lot of damage to her vocal cords, and she could not speak/swallow. After almost a month, she regained her ability to very softly talk and drink liquids.

On May 12th, she was discharged to a full-time care facility where she could receive care and therapy to regain strength to her left side. Unfortunately, she has no medical insurance, and the facility will no longer accept her unless we pay out-of-pocket. The cost for her care is extremely high. She has showed lots of improvement the weeks she’s been there but she needs to continue her physical therapy so she can hopefully regain her ability stand and walk.

My mom has been a single mom for 15 years and has always put us first. She’s been the sole provider, and through many obstacles in her life she has never given up. She has showed my sister and myself how to be strong and succeed in life, but this is an obstacle we were not prepared for. I am asking for financial help to be able to keep her in the full care facility so she can receive the level of care and therapy she needs, until she is ready to come home.

Any contribution, large or small, would benefit my mom’s recovery. The funds raised will go towards her hospitalization expenses and full-time nursing and rehab care until she gains back to some level of normalcy, and for family care.

Estuvo algo estable durante unos días; su neurocirujano decidió proceder con la segunda cirugía el 9 de abril. Después de ocho larguísimas horas, removieron el resto del tumor.

Desafortunadamente, desarrolló una reacción alérgica a la heparina durante la cirugía que causó muchas complicaciones y tuvo que permanecer intubada durante un par de semanas. Durante este tiempo, tuvo una serie de mini derrames cerebrales que le causaron parálisis en el lado izquierdo del cuerpo. Eventualmente, le quitaron el tubo de intubación, lo que causó mucho daño a sus cuerdas vocales y no podía hablar ni pasar. Después de casi un mes, recuperó la capacidad de hablar y beber líquidos.

El 12 de mayo, fue dada de alta a un centro de atención de tiempo completo donde puede recibir atención y terapia para recuperar la fuerza del lado izquierdo. Lamentablemente, no tiene seguro médico y el centro ya no la aceptará a menos que paguemos de nuestro bolsillo. El costo de su cuidado es extremadamente alto. Ha mostrado mucha mejoría en las semanas que ha estado allí, pero necesita continuar con su fisioterapia para poder recuperar su capacidad para pararse y caminar.

Mi mamá ha sido madre soltera durante 15 años y siempre nos ha puesto primero. Ella ha sido la única proveedora y, a través de muchos obstáculos en su vida, nunca se ha rendido. Ella nos ha mostrado a mi hermana ya mí cómo ser fuertes y tener éxito en la vida, pero este es un obstáculo para el que no estábamos preparadas. Estoy pidiendo ayuda financiera para poder mantenerla en el centro de atención completa para que pueda recibir el nivel de atención y terapia que necesita, hasta que esté lista para volver a casa.

Cualquier contribución, grande o pequeña, beneficiaría la recuperación de mi mama. Los fondos recaudados se destinarán a sus gastos de hospitalización y atención de enfermería y rehabilitación a tiempo completo hasta que recupere cierto nivel de normalidad y para el cuidado de la familia.
