Help Elizabeth Get a Car (after serious accident)
Donation protected
Elizabeth Schlag might just be the most positive, giving, and caring person in New Paltz. She has two brilliant and sweet kids, Logan (10) and Izzi (15) and she is someone who always helps others out and goes out of her way to stick up for the underdog. She embodies the kindest values of our town, as well the free spirit vibe that is core to what New Paltz has always been (she is an amazing dancer who can be found at any musical event.)
Today, Elizabeth and her children need our help to get back on solid footing after a terrible car accident that is endangering her livelihood. If we each pitch in even a little bit she can get another car and avoid interruption to her work.
On July 28, Elizabeth, Logan, and Izzi were hit by a mail truck in Montgomery, NY, and her car was totaled. Elizabeth was going straight and had the right of way when a mail truck that had barely stopped at a stop sign made a right turn into the side of Elizabeth’s car, smashing the passenger side that the kids were in. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt, though it was a huge shock that is taking a lot to recover from, emotionally and physically.
A witness who was also at a stop sign across from the mail truck has submitted a statement validating that the accident was the fault of the mail truck, not Elizabeth, and that they saw him looking down (ie. at a phone) right before turning.
Unfortunately, it will take time for the fault of the accident to be officially declared, and it is not clear how much money Elizabeth will be able to get from her insurance company, or when.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth had just signed a lease for an apartment in Kingston, because she and her family need to move out of their current place due to severe water damage and mold, and they are priced out of our town because of skyrocketing rental prices.
So since she is moving in 2 weeks, it is essential that Elizabeth have a car to get to work at her two jobs in New Paltz.
While Elizabeth got her last car for under $3000, we know that the market for used cars is really high, and also we want her to have a reliable and safe car since now she will be driving 1-2 hours a day between her home and work, which are further apart.
Being a mom also means a lot of driving and the need for a good car.
We hope to raise $6000 to help Elizabeth get a used car. Every little bit counts, so if you can donate $5 or $20 or $100, it will be so helpful right now.
Elizabeth always goes out of her way to help others, and I hope you will help her if you are in a position to do so. This is a very urgent situation for her.
Also if you have information about a reliable used car, please let us know right away.
And finally, please repost this and add your own words of support to encourage your friends to help.
Thanks,
Elizabeth’s friend,
