Help Elizabeth become a Death Doula
Donation protected
Despite having worked as a birth doula, postpartum doula, and childbirth educator for the past 6 years, and serving more than 250 families, I know very little when it comes to death. This is an imbalance I’d like to correct by going through an in-depth training with Alua Arthur of Going with Grace. You can learn more about the training here: Going with Grace End of Life Training .
Now more than ever do I see this as a service and offering I can provide to those in my community. When Black women are dying at a rate of 243% more likely to die than from childbirth-related causes than white women, and Latinxs in NYC are the highest demographic dying from Covid-19, it is necessary for us to know how to proceed both in honoring the dead and creating space for grief. Over the years, I’ve thought about what precautions my family and I need to take should one of us die. What do I want my own end of life care to look like? What are the ways I can support a family knowing a loved one is dying so that they can enjoy those final moments?
Cost Breakdown:
- $1695 for online study with Alua
- $25 application fee
Remaining funds will be used to cover GoFundMe transaction fees.
The goal for this training is to become a certified End of Life Planner, also referred to as a Death Doula. As an educator, I’m primarily interested in providing workshops for people in my community so that as a community, we learn together how to prepare for death. As a doula, I am committed to supporting individuals and families when they are near the end of life.
