My name is Terri Goodman and Elizabeth Anne is my step-daughter. I think anyone who knows Elizabeth Anne knows that she has always been a survivor! But, this time she is in a fight for her life.
She has been sick for a long time and did not realize it was anything serious, but if you know her, she continued to push forward and did not pursue medical care. In early June, she got established with a primary care physician to begin exploring what health issues may be going on to cause the symptoms she was experiencing. Over the summer, her condition progressively worsened. She has been hospitalized once and had two additional ER visits in the last two months. She has suffered 3 mini strokes (to which we are eternally grateful there was no permanent damage). Finally, a few weeks ago, she was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. Along with that diagnosis, she also learned that she has Hashimoto’s Disease, which is an autoimmune disease that causes your immune system to attack your thyroid gland. In addition to thyroid issues, Elizabeth Anne also has cardiac issues. She had heart surgery in 2012. The cardiac issues from that time period have come back. She has Afib and Supraventricular Tachycardia that her doctor says will more than likely need another surgical intervention within the coming months. She is scheduled for surgery to remove her thyroid Wednesday, September 8th. But, the doctors say she must have cardiac tests done to make sure she is stable enough to proceed. After she recovers from the thyroid surgery, she will then have radiation treatments. We are praying for no metastasis, but at this point we don’t know.
Elizabeth Anne is a single mom of three children. She just made a big move from Biloxi to Brandon, to which end we are grateful for her to be close to family during this time. She is determined, optimistic, and faithful; but mostly, she is full of pride that often gets in her way of asking for help when needed. Many relatives and family friends have inquired about how they could help, so I thought this would be a wonderful way people could do so.
Expenses over the last few months, including: hospital stays, multiple cardiac/endocrine/neurological tests, doctor visits, etc. have created a financial hardship. She will incur expenses for at least two surgeries and multiple other medical expenses in the coming months.
Please consider donating to help Elizabeth Anne on her road to a full recovery. We need her to focus on getting well instead of worrying about insurmountable medical costs.
