Help Elisha With Medical Costs

Donation protected
Elisha is a 23-year-old recent college graduate, athlete, daughter, sister, and friend aspiring to go to Med School and become a surgeon.

Nine years ago Elisha began having some worrying symptoms and illnesses. She was recently diagnosed with chronic Lyme Disease and Epstein-Barr virus. Throughout high school and college these diseases have left Elisha with chronic fatigue and extreme physical weakness. Recently she has experienced severe apptetite loss, weight loss, muscle paralysis attacks, and lost her ability to think clearly. These new symptoms made her path to college graduation extremely difficult and forced her to quit playing the sports and pursuing the extracurricular activities she was so passionate about.

Thankfully, in the last six months, Elisha found an amazing doctor able to help her. However, the doctor is not cheap and chronic Lyme Disease is not covered by many insurance companies, and has left her to pay out of pocket for her medical expenses, which are numerous.

The first appointment with her new doctor came in at $800, with every follow up costing another $450. In the next month, in addition to a major surgery that will hopefully improve her appetite, Elisha will also be starting a 10 month IV-antiobiotic regimen. Though she will be on antibiotics three times a week for nearly a year, her insurance doesn't cover any of the costs and her family will have to pay thousands of dollars in medical bills themselves. UPDATE: We have found out her treatment could cost up to $48,000. On top of the $450 for appointments and the $3000 they've already put in.

Elisha is proud and stubborn. I am not. I am making this GoFundMe on behalf of Elisha, my best friend since we were 11, and the person most undeserving to deal with this illness.  She has already had to spend a significant amount of her own money, which was set aside to pay for medical school, a lifelong dream of hers. All the money collected here will go directly towards paying for doctor's appointments and treatment costs.

Elisha has been serving her community for years, as a part of the Silver Spring Fire Department as a volunteer EMT. She has also been a counselor and nurse at the Takoma Park Soccer Camp for several years. Please consider helping out someone who's done so much to help out her own neighborhood!
