My friend Elisa, a Junior at CU Boulder, was supposed to be spending her semester studying abroad in Florence, Italy. Unfortunately, during her second week in Italy, she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She quickly returned to the U.S. and immediately started her treatment at The Children's Hospital Colorado. She's finished her first round of chemotherapy but still has two more rounds and a life-saving bone marrow transplant to go.
The outpouring of love and support has been incredible, and Elisa's body has been responding to treatment very well, but funds are still necessary for the long journey ahead.
Because of the intensity of Elisa's chemotherapy, she will have to get one of her ovaries removed to preserve her fertility. The storage and upkeep of her ovary is an expense that will not be covered by insurance, along with other costs that come with her cancer journey, like a fancy wig!
Elisa is studying International Affairs and Minoring in Business. She loves CU and the community of friends she has found here. She's one of the most amazing people I've met and deserves as much support as she can get through this challenging time.
