Help Elijah Coffey Knock Cancer Out Cold

My son, Adam Coffey, and his partner, Megan Tyler, received some of the worst news any parent could get…. That their 2-year-old son, Elijah Logan, has just been diagnosed with Neuroblastoma cancer.
On January 19, 2024, Elijah woke up from his afternoon nap with a large lump on his neck. Adam & Meg immediately (that day) took Elijah to his pediatrician to have the lump on his neck checked out. The pediatrician initially thought that the swelling may be an infection in the lymph nodes and prescribed Elijah an antibiotic to be taken for 7 days. 7 days later, on January 26th, Elijah was seen by the pediatrician again. Because the antibiotic prescribed had no effect on the large lump on his neck, the pediatrician decided to refer Elijah to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY for further evaluation. Within an hour, Adam & Meg dropped Elijah’s 2 brothers, Owen and Quinten, off to me (Mema) and headed 2 hours south down Interstate 81 with their little nugget. Over the next few days, Elijah underwent many tests & scans to try and figure out what was going on. The tests/scans conducted showed, not only a large mass on his neck, but he also had a large mass originating from his right adrenal gland. Biopsies were performed on the lump on Elijah’s neck and of the mass on Elijah’s adrenal gland, testing positive for Neuroblastoma cancer. A bone marrow biopsy was then conducted, and that came back positive for neuroblastoma cancer also.
At this point, the doctor was concerned about the aggressiveness of Elijah’s Neuroblastoma cancer, and on January 29th, Elijah started his chemotherapy treatment plan. This initial treatment plan is expected to take 12 months. There are many other things they are considering during this time also, to include radiation, stem cell transplants, etc.
Elijah is very sick. All he really wants to do is constantly snuggle his mommy & daddy. There is no way he can leave the hospital right now because he is constantly in need of something (blood transfusion, rescue drugs, morphine, fever management, etc.).
Fortunately, Elijah does have medical insurance that covers the cost of his treatment. However, Adam and Meg are trying to support their household in Rensselaer Falls, while also trying to provide for themselves while living at the hospital. This is putting additional financial hardship on them during this already trying time, causing more worries for this family. Over the next year, Adam and Meg will need to travel with Elijah for all in-patient stays at the Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital as well as travel to and from Syracuse twice a week when he is undergoing out-patient treatment. During this time, Owen and Quinten will be back in the North Country going to school and traveling to visit their parents and Elijah on the weekends, adding additional costs to the situation.
All of this happened very suddenly. Many people have reached out to Adam & Meg asking how they can help. Assisting with their financial burdens will go a long way to help them worry less about how to pay their bills or where to get gas money from, and allow them to focus on what truly matters, Elijah’s health. Whether you can assist or not, please keep them in your thoughts and pray for Elijah’s recovery from this devastating disease.
Please note that any money that is left over will be donated to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital and childhood cancer research centers.
