You probably know Elijah's story by now. But if you don't, he was born with a congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He has undergone several procedures, three open-heart surgeries, and too many hospitalizations to count.

Until recently, he has always had Medicaid coverage. Devastatingly, I have exhausted all options trying to get him insured again. Between the government shutdown, being denied any and all disability benefits, and the cost of his monthly medications exceeding $1,000, there is just not much else I can do as a single mom.
