Hi! My name is Elijah Wood (no, not that one!) and I am a drummer and a software engineer from New York. I identify as a transgender female and officially began my transition journey almost 5 years ago, when I was 21. Though I knew from an early age that something was off, it took me some time to fully accept who I am. 

I am no stranger to mental health. I have been hospitalized a few times for extreme anxiety and depression, caused in part by gender dysphoria. This past year got so bad that I even attempted suicide. I am so lucky to have my partner, Hayley by my side. Without her I probably wouldn’t be here today.

 

Since I could remember, I’ve known gender affirming surgery to be my best answer to a lifetime plagued by gender dysphoria, pain, and discomfort. Thanks to the support from my family and friends, I am finally going through this life changing process. 

There are so many costs involved and because COVID decimated the entertainment industry (where I primarily work), I simply don’t have enough money to keep up with them. 

 

I really am nervous about putting this all out there because this is all quite personal, but I'm hoping that by posting this fundraiser, it'll bring me closer to these life saving procedures. 

 

I have already decided on a surgeon in Antwerp, Belgium and I can set a surgery date once I near my goal.
