I’m creating this fundraiser for a friend and her family, who are currently going through an incredibly painful and uncertain time.

Her husband was taken into ICE custody today and is now facing possible deportation.

He came to the United States from Brazil in 2009 and has lived here legally while building a life, a family, and a home. He and Elide married five years later and now have two children together, a 10 year old, and an almost 2 year old.

Thankfully, they already had an immigration attorney before this happened, but were told by their attorney that he faces a high chance of deportation.

His hearing is scheduled almost two weeks from now, and the legal fees alone will cost them 8,000, just to fight deportation.

Anything at all would go a long way towards bringing this family back together and also supporting Elide while she continues to raise her two kids, while trying to bring her husband home.

Update: Her husband is still in ICE custody. His court date is finally coming up in 10 days. He's trying to voluntarily deport to lift the ban on reentry, but ICE is trying to make it as hard as possible. Their new plan is not to fight to keep him here, as the court costs are just too high, but instead, they are planning on moving to Brazil with him when he's situated, after living their whole lives here. They are still facing attorney costs, and now moving costs, while they've also been without his income for the last few weeks now.
