Hi, I’m Elia! I don’t ever do this- ask for help, but I’m desperate and in terrible shape lacking the adequate medical care for my chronic illnesses. I just recently lost my job(I think because of my disability), which in turn caused me to lose my health insurance. I have already had to cancel multiple treatments and doctor’s appointments due to no insurance. I struggle with multiple chronic illnesses that affect my everyday life. If you struggle with chronic illness or know someone who does, you know that health insurance can be life or death for us. It is our lifeline and often our only hope. Without health insurance, I cannot get the proper treatment to treat my conditions and avoid them from further damaging my body. Without my insurance, I am stuck in a flare up that is not only worsening my physical health, but my mental health as well. Being chronically ill, it is very difficult to find a job that is willing to accommodate so I find myself at a loss.

I find myself starting a new year in more debt, no health insurance, no hope for a new job, and struggling to afford to live. I have the option to get COBRA to continue the medical coverage I had with my job but COBRA is ridiculously expensive. I can’t afford $800 a month for insurance. I am trying to keep my current coverage and opt for COBRA so I don’t have a gap in my care. If I have to get a new insurance, I am back to square one having to get all my treatments approved all over again. I also would have to find new doctors which is so difficult when managing multiple chronic illnesses. COBRA is my best bet at fighting my chronic illnesses and winning.
