**Help Eli Heal: Supporting Our Family After a Severe Accident**
**The Story**
On Easter Sunday, what should have been a day of celebration and family turned into a day that changed everything for us. While riding a motorized scooter in Seattle, Eli was involved in a serious accident. Since that moment, our world has been a whirlwind of emergency rooms, specialist appointments, and the heavy reality of a long road to recovery.
**The Injury**
For those who aren’t familiar with the medical terminology, the damage was extensive. To put it simply, Eli didn’t just twist his knee; he sustained a complex, multi-layered injury:
* He completely tore his **ACL**, the main stabilizing ligament.
* He suffered a high-grade tear of his **MCL**.
* Both the inner and outer **meniscus** (the "cushion" in the joint) are torn, including a "bucket-handle" tear where the cartilage flipped into the joint.
* He also sustained a **fracture** in his leg bone and significant bone bruising.
This past Wednesday, Eli underwent an extensive surgery to begin the long process of reconstruction. Unfortunately, we have been told he may face a second surgery in the coming weeks to fully repair the damage.
**Navigating the Financial Strain**
If you know us, you know that asking for help is the hardest thing for us to do. We are a humble family that prides itself on working hard and being the ones to offer help rather than ask for it. Eli is a dedicated provider for our household, and his employer, **Discount Tire**, has been incredibly understanding and supportive during this time.
We are fortunate to have health coverage through his work, but even with insurance, the reality of a catastrophic injury brings a mountain of "hidden" costs. We are currently facing significant out-of-pocket expenses, high deductibles, and co-pays. Beyond that, there are essential costs insurance doesn't fully cover—such as a specialized knee brace, medical supplies for home care, and prescriptions.
Additionally, the logistics of Eli's care have become a major undertaking. As his only local caretaker, I (Shelly) have had to sacrifice work hours and adjust my schedule to manage the constant commute. Between the initial emergency visits, the long list of specialist appointments we’ve already attended, and his recent surgery, we have spent a significant amount of time on the road. Looking ahead, he has a rigorous schedule of upcoming physical therapy sessions that will require even more travel.
Being here in Washington, the rising cost of fuel has made these necessary trips a substantial financial burden. The "double impact" of Eli's leave of absence and my reduced work hours, combined with these mounting travel expenses, has created a significant shortfall. While we are doing everything we can to keep our household stable, the costs are quickly adding up.
**The Path Forward**
Eli is expected to be off work for at least 6 to 8 weeks. Our children have been absolutely amazing, stepping up to help in every way they can. As a family, we just want to work together to support Eli and get our family as a whole back to health.
**How You Can Help**
We are reaching out to our community to ask for your support during this hardship. We aren’t looking for a handout, but rather a bridge to help us cover these specific, rising costs so we can focus entirely on Eli’s recovery and getting him back on his feet.
If you are able to donate, any amount is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to help financially, we completely understand and simply ask that you please **share our GoFundMe** to help get the word out.
Thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and for supporting our family through this journey.
With love and gratitude,
Shelly and Family
