On September 28, 2024 our family learned that our loved one, Steven Phipps, had been tragically shot by the police during a traffic stop. Many questions remain unanswered due to the knowledge that our loved one legally owned his firearm, had multiple unnecessary interactions with this officer, had no outstanding warrant, and did not pose an immediate threat to the officers safety. Our only guess was that he fled out of fear and safety concerns.
Steven was charismatic, respectful, full of life, funny, had a love of music and was working full time to provide for himself and his mother.
As a close family member and pastor in the community, I am asking for the community’s support to ensure that Steven’s mother, Elexis Powell, is able to provide a proper funeral and burial for her son. As you can imagine, these circumstances are sudden and devastating. Worrying about the financial aspect of this situation should not be a burden to her while she attempts to understand and grieve. As a family, we appreciate the support we are getting from the community as we navigate through this tragic event. Please keep us in your prayers and donate and share if you are able.
