Help Elena Beat Breast Cancer

Everyone who knows Elena, knows she is a super mom. She is very hands-on with her 3 year old son, Joseph. While lying in bed on Sunday night with Joseph, she felt something strange which she thought to be a rock in her shirt from playing outside with him earlier that day. After realizing that it was a lump, she made it a point to call her doctor, Dr. Shaw, first thing in the morning. Doctor Shaw's office made sure she was seen right away, that Monday morning.
Dr. Shaw scheduled Elena for a biopsy and within days she was diagnosed with Stage 2a, Level 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Triple Negative. At only 34 years of age, Elena will begin chemo treatments. Treatments are scheduled to begin on Friday, November 17th, to shrink the tumor as much as possible. Following her initial 20 week round of treatment, she will undergo surgery for a double mastectomy. Depending on the outcome of her initial chemo and surgery, the doctor feels that she may require additional oral chemo.
Elena has been diligent in her doctor’s visits, making sure that all avenues are thoroughly researched, giving her the best possible outcome. One recommendation that her doctor made was to undergo fertility treatments to preserve her eggs so that in the future, she will be able to have more children. Unfortunately, health insurance does not cover this treatment this alone will cost approximately $10,000.00.
Elena works 40+ hours a week as a hair stylist. She will be unable to work during her treatments. Elena’s husband Tim is a landscape designer who is in the process of being laid off for the cold weather season. With both Elena and Tim being out of work, there will be a financial burden we are hoping to ease. As a community of family, friends, neighbors, acquaintances, we are all pitching in and reaching out for helping hands so that the Pelepako family can focus on the fight and not finances.

This fundraiser is carrying over from YouCaring.com which was acquired by GoFundMe.
After Elena’s mastectomy, a portion of the cancer was still active in the tumor. Elena is now undergoing a 28 round series of radiation which will be followed by 6 months of oral chemo. Once these treatments are completed, Elena will undergo an additional breast surgery to finalize her reconstruction. During this time Elena has been and will incur large health care bills and will also be unable to work for extended periods of time. Please help us to help her make this fight a little easier.
