Help Eleanor Experience the World Beyond Hospital Walls 

Eleanor is my sweet old soul—a joyful, resilient little girl who touches the hearts of everyone she meets. She has marked her place here on earth and paved her own path along the way. She has spent her first 10 months navigating medical complexities with incredible strength. After 325+ days in the hospital, Eleanor is finally expected to come home but she still faces immense challenges.

Born prematurely at just 29 weeks alongside her twin sister Florence, Eleanor endured a life-threatening birth complication - a cord prolapse leading to a severe brain injury called Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE). She has fought through months in NICU, PICU and a lengthy inpatient stay at QCH. Eleanor required full resuscitation at birth and has relied on breathing support for much of her early life.

As a result Eleanor now faces hearing loss, dystonia, bulbar palsy, cerebral palsy. 

and is fully tube-fed and oxygen-dependent under palliative care. 

Why We Need Your Help

Despite generous support from the community and NDIS, we face one major obstacle: securing a reliable large wheelchair-accessible car/van.

For Eleanor to safely travel, she requires 24/7 supervision and a nurse support worker in the back seat to assist with airway management and suctioning. Her modified car seat takes up significant space, plus her sisters rear facing car seat. For the time being, Eleanor fits comfortably in a standard twin pram with her sister. However as she grows, she will need an even larger specialized wheelchair stroller. There will be a time in the near future where Eleanor and Florence will be in 2 separate prams, along with critical medical equipment like suction machines, oxygen tanks and other life-sustaining supplies.

Our current vehicle simply cannot accommodate Eleanor’s evolving needs, making everyday life getting to medical appointments, experiencing the outdoors and spending time as a family beyond hospital walls extremely difficult.

As her full-time carer I am unable to return to work, but with the kindness of friends, family and community we hope to make this dream a reality.
