Hey everyone! I am asking for help with an emergency situation that came up this week. An elderly in law of one of my family members was abandoned by said family member at an extended stay hotel this Monday 8/4.

Bev (the mother in law who was abandoned) has dementia and is in need of memory care. I am working with Adult Protective Services to figure out next steps, but the hotel has already allowed her to stay in the hotel one night without payment. They also only currently have yogurts and a couple microwaveable meals to eat.

I am not related to her, and have only met her once, but I have become the point person in this situation and I am at a loss of how to proceed. Ideally, I would like to get enough funds to pay for her room for another week or two and stock her fridge with some healthier foods.

I am unable to house her in my house for a variety of reasons, but I will be involved going forward until we are able to find a place that can give her the care she needs.

APS is unable to place her due to limitations on government assistance. So as it stands, either I take ownership of this situation, or she becomes immediately homeless.
