Dian is an elderly, widowed and disabled woman who has been reduced to sleeping on benches in and near Cheviot Hills Recreation Center/Rancho Park. In the cold. In the rain. 

Until about six months ago, Dian lived in her car. She is a kind, educated and engaging woman who was left destitute by the unexpected death of her husband.  She befriended  regular park visitors. She was self-sufficient, and wanted only to live quietly.

Then she was badly hurt in a car accident. When she was discharged from the hospital, the body shop fixing her car told her it had been stolen, with all of her worldly belongings inside.

Dian has always used her extremely limited Social Security income to keep up with her car insurance.  Unfortunately, the company only gave her a $333 settlement for her stolen car – not enough for a replacement.  Since then, she has been without shelter and transportation. 

No one should have to spend their later years on the street. We are raising funds to buy a used car for Dian.  Any monies raised beyond our goal will go toward insurance, gas, food and a new pair of glasses. (We are also working with a homeless advocate to discuss transitional housing options and legal action against the body shop from which her car was stolen.)
