Twin is 69 years old, disabled and in a wheelchair, and he’s been living on the street since June after a fire in his apartment left him without a home. In the fire, he lost everything. He is in the process of getting his new documentation to secure permanent housing, especially with temperature hovering around freezing almost nightly. Unfortunately, this process will take at least a month.
Baltimore City emergency cold weather shelters only open when the wind chill is below 32 degrees, but Twin is in no shape to stay outside in any kind of cold. His health is failing the longer he lives outside.
Shelter wait lists are months long. The goal is to put Twin up in a hotel until his documentation is obtained and he can find permanent housing. But hotels downtown aren’t cheap! That’s where you can help. Even just a few dollars can get this wonderfully kind man closer to staying in a hotel for the short term, instead of sleeping on the steps of a church downtown in the middle of a pandemic.
Twin draws beautifully. All he wants is to be able to draw, but when it’s as cold as it is now, he doesn’t have strength to put pen to paper. With your help, Twin can get back to drawing someplace comfortable and safe.
