Help Elaine Fink recover from the Fork Fire

Donation protected
A GoFundMe fund has been established in the name of Ms. Elaine Bethel Fink, the well-respected state and federal tribal leader and long serving Tribal Chairperson of the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California. Elaine lost her home in the recent wildfire in the foothill community of North Fork, California near Yosemite. At the time of the evacuation she was caring for her 93 year old Aunt and had little to no time to prepare. She had to flag down Sierra National Forest Emergency Personnel to help her get her Aunt to the car, by that time she felt life was way more important then objects and left with only a few items. Elaine then had to go and pick up her 96 year old Mother who had lost power at her home because of the Fork Fire and get her out of the hot weather and additional heat because of the fire.

Elaine has dedicated a majority of her life serving the Tribal community not just locally but also on the State and National level. As a Tribal leader for North Fork Rancheria along with the rest of Tribal Council she supports our local community especially during times like this and supports all efforts to give back and help our Town of North Fork for all who reside here. It’s for these reasons I Maryann McGovran am supporting this GoFundMe fund.

The fund will assist the former Tribal Chairperson and sitting Tribal Council member to rebuild and refurnish the home she lived in for over 50 years along with her Daughter and Grandson. The fire loss was total, claiming everything her and her family owned. As with many foothills residences, adequate fire insurance protection was not possible and the home must be rebuilt from the foundation up.

Ms. Bethel-Fink has served in tribal leadership positions for over a quarter of a century and received numerous awards and recognitions, including the coveted national WEWIN’s (Women Empowering Women for Indigenous Nations) Warrior Women’s Circle award in 2019 validating her commitment to Indian Country and local community.

“Throughout Elaine’s tenure, the North Fork Rancheria has been one of the most successful tribes in the nation in winning federal grants to invest in people and community,” said long-serving Madera County Supervisor Tom Wheeler, a fellow North Fork resident and long-time friend of Elaine’s. “This is a chance to show our appreciation for everything Elaine and others have done to rebuild this Tribe and town.”
