Elaine is a vibrant soul whose light shines wherever she goes. You can’t help but be drawn to her warmth, her strength, and her resilience.

I met Elaine years ago, during the final phase of her recovery from Transverse Myelitis (TM). I’ll never forget the first time she proudly walked through the doors of my workplace after finally being able to drive again. That smile—beaming with victory—will stay with me forever. SHE DID IT.

Over the past 10 years, Elaine and I have become best friends. I’ve witnessed her strength firsthand as she battles diabetes and the lasting damage it has caused to her body. I’ve seen the ups, the downs, and everything in between. I've watched her push through exhausting jobs, countless hospital stays, and relentless setbacks. Yet no matter what, she never gives up.

During that time 10 years ago, she also lost her life long friend, her father. Devastating loss for her. Unimaginable.  

So here we are in 2025...this all comes to the forefront once again. With that it has brought the sadness, grief, trauma of the memories of past. 

Today, Elaine is in crisis again—and this time, she needs us.

Due to ongoing health complications and the failures of our healthcare system, she’s facing roadblocks at every turn:

Denied access to treatment centers because she’s not “far enough along”

Misdiagnosed even after providing clear medical history

Refused medical transportation because of insurance limitations

She needs intensive care. She needs aggressive rehabilitation. She needs a chance.

If you know Elaine, you know her light—her fierce determination, her boundless kindness, and her unshakable optimism in the face of unimaginable challenges. Elaine has spent much of her young life battling serious health conditions, but she has always faced each hurdle with grace, grit, and a smile that inspires everyone around her.

At just 38 years old, Elaine has been fighting Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes since she was 10. Her case is especially complex, compounded by gastroparesis and a range of complications that have kept her in and out of hospitals for years. Her diabetes is brittle and unpredictable, and her health has often teetered on a delicate balance.

In 2016, life dealt her another unimaginable blow: she was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a rare and devastating neurological condition. Overnight, Elaine went from walking to being 90% paralyzed. She endured nine long months of intensive inpatient rehab to relearn how to walk and regain basic functions—step by painful step, day by courageous day.

Today, Elaine faces another critical chapter in her journey. Her condition has worsened, and she urgently needs to receive specialized inpatient care from leading experts in Chicago. This care—recommended by her current medical team—could give her the best shot at reclaiming mobility and independence.

Though her body continues to fight, Elaine’s mind is as sharp as ever. Her spirit is unbreakable. She dreams of walking again—just as she once danced across tennis courts as a nationally ranked USTA player and beloved coach. She hasn’t given up. And neither will we.

But we can’t do this without your help.

Elaine’s road to recovery is long, complex, and extremely costly. We’re raising funds to support:
