Help Eladio and His Family Recover From Covid-19
**ENGLISH TRANSLATION BELOW**
Who is Eladio Ocampo?
Eladio Ocampo is a husband, and a father to three sons and a daughter. He was the main provider for the family up until he was infected with COVID-19 in early November. He is a hard-working man, having a great passion for yardwork and working on his garden. He often ended up working up to three jobs in one day to provide for his family, all while being a humbling and caring father, always determined to make ends meet, dedicated his life to God and his family.
COVID-19 has largely impacted our family, infecting all of us, and ultimately sending three of us to the hospital. Eladio’s two sons, Daniel, and Bryan Ocampo, were left with multiple lung problems long after being discharged from the hospital- still being affected up to present day.
Eladio had to spend an extended amount of time in the hospital. The COVID Pneumonia left him with many challenges. During his time in the hospital, his left lung collapsed, with the doctors having to place an oxygen tube in his lung to try and restore the collapsed lung. And due to his difficulties breathing, he was unable to walk, or even move from which side he was laying on, without his oxygen saturation going down.
It was an emotionally traumatic experience for everyone in the family, as this was a time that no visitors were allowed due to the high number of COVID patients, and by then it was Thanksgivings time. All while we called daily to check on my father’s condition.
Thankfully by Christmas, the hospital made a great exception to allow his wife Rosa Ocampo, and myself, Daniel, to visit him on Christmas Eve. It was the first time I saw my father cry. The nurses had expressed to us their concerns that my father was depressed due to the sheer loneliness and separation from his family. By then he was COVID-19 negative, but he was still recovering slowly from the damage done to his lungs, so they allowed us to visit him, and ultimately allowed my mother to regularly visit him. I truly admire the love they both have for each other.
He was discharged by the hospital in the second week of January, being hooked up to an electric oxygen tank and unable to physically move. This was the start of another big journey for our family: to learn how to properly take care of my father. We bought many medical supplies, read through various articles, and developed a method to measure the strength of his lungs using a spirometer, and constantly monitoring his overall health multiple times a day, daily.
We are no medical experts, but it is the passion and love for our father that motivates us to give everything we have, to help him feel better.
It is now May, and because Eladio was the main provider for the family, we are left with very little from our emergency savings and from other’s donations. With all the bills, medical expenses, rent, or food and human necessities, it is looking we won’t have enough to pay for everything.
The only one who has been able to provide for the family is my mother, Rosa Ocampo. She has continued to work and takes care of my father during most hours of the day, but her earnings is not enough to cover all of our expenses.
This campaign is to provide financial assistance to our family, who have all suffered so much emotionally, and in the case of Eladio, Daniel, and Bryan, they continue to suffer with breathing problems.
The road to recovery is long, and we remain optimistic and hopeful that one day, my father, Eladio Ocampo, will be able to walk and tend to his garden one day more, as he always loved to do.
