Help Eileen get a new power chair

Donation protected
Hello everyone, this is my mother Eileen.
She’s always been there for me and she’s the best mom I could ever hope to have, but life hasn’t been easy for her. For the past 20 years, she has been in a constant battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It's a complicated disease that attacks the central nervous system, and in her case, it was one that has affected her mobility. It is hard for her to move around, and even the most mundane daily tasks can be challenging.

As debilitating as MS is, my mom refuses to back down or let it get the best of her. She has continued to soldier on through this illness, and a lot of it has to do with the freedom that she has been provided with her power chair.
Over the years, her chair has been integral to her life. As her legs have began to fail her, it has given her a second chance at life, allowing her to get places on her own, take strolls through town, and just meet up with friends.

However, this chair is now over 10 years old. Needless to say, it has gotten pretty worn down over the years. On top of that, her particular model of chair has been discontinued by the manufacturer, so she can't even get it serviced anymore.

Over the past few months, she has told me about some particularly heartbreaking incidents of problems she had with the chair. She's gotten stuck on hills, had the batteries die halfway to her usual destinations for shopping and socialization, and even had one of the wheels just pop off while riding on flat land for seemingly no reason other than it had just started to falter with age. At this point, we need to get her a new chair. I can’t be there for her and if it gives out on her, she could be stranded somewhere and that’s dangerous, especially as winter is coming.

We went to a mobility center, thinking that her Medicare/Medicaid and disability benefits would be able to cover the cost. Sadly, we were informed that we would still have to pay a lot out of pocket to get a new chair, in the ballpark of around $4,000. We don’t have a lot and this is a significant financial burden to take on. She's already on a tight fixed income with social security and disability, with a majority of that just going to rent and debts from prior medical expenses. Her husband, my dad, died a few years back from cancer. She doesn’t have a lot. She tells me that her best option as of right now would be to take out a loan for this. She’s already given up so much and I want to try to do everything I can to help her, and that’s why I’m asking for help.

My mother has been the single greatest positive influence in my life, and I want to do what I can to get her what she deserves. Her 62nd birthday is coming up this November, and I can't think of a greater gift than to take this significant financial burden off of her mind and ensure her mobile freedom for the years to come. All funds to this campaign will go directly to buying a new power chair for Eileen.

To be honest, I feel deeply ashamed that this is not a burden that I can solve on my own for her. I don’t have a lot to share. It isn’t that I want a break, it is that I want to help my mom keep what she deserves and I just can’t do it on my own. I want her to be happy, I want her to have her independence and not have to worry about losing it.

I’m sorry to be asking so much of all of you but please, any contribution you can make here would absolutely mean the world to me. I've seen incredible feats of love and kindness on this platform, so I figured it was worth a shot.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration,
-Patrick
