E.G.M. was wrongfully detained by ICE on December 18th, 2025. E.G.M. is a hard working man that has built an extended community since arriving in the United States. He came to Washington seeking safety and a new beginning, working legally at our shared employer while pursuing asylum from his home country. Despite the challenges of navigating a complex legal system in a new language, he attended two asylum hearings on his own and was told he needed an attorney for his final approval. In a desperate search for legal help, E.G.M. found someone he believed to be a legitimate attorney. This individual misled him, telling E.G.M. that he did not need to attend his final hearing and that his presence was not required. After the hearing, the attorney informed E.G.M. that everything had gone well and that his asylum had been granted. Trusting this, E.G.M. continued with his immigration process, only to later discover that, in his absence, an order of removal had actually been issued at the hearing. It was only after his detention that we learned the truth about the fraudulent attorney, who had impersonated an attorney general and provided false information at every step. Since then, E.G.M. has been held at the ICE processing center in Tacoma, WA, separated from the life he was working so hard to build. With this GoFundMe, we hope to help E.G.M. continue the process that was already set in motion before he was taken advantage of.
