In just two minutes, our lives changed forever. Our dad, husband, and friend, Efrain Lopez, went into cardiac arrest in his living room while our mom was just two minutes away in the next room. Now, he’s preparing for open-heart quadruple bypass surgery. What makes this even harder is that just five short months ago, he suffered a serious fall where he cracked his skull and experienced brain trauma that he still had not fully recovered from. Because of this, he hasn’t been able to work and currently has no income coming in. We are struggling to make ends meet for him, but the help from everyone has made a difference. Thank you for that, from the bottom of our hearts. His bills this month are covered, but we ran into another issue. When he comes home from surgery, he cannot be left alone for even a moment. My mom will be his full-time caregiver, watching him 24/7—but their home isn’t ready for what’s ahead. We have had professionals assess the need to make their bathroom safe for his recovery, build a ramp so he can get in and out safely, bring the laundry room indoors (currently outside and mom has already fallen going there) so my mom can be near him at all times, and remove dangerous mold found in their home. Our family is stepping up—his son and brothers-in-law are doing all the labor for free—but we simply can’t afford the materials needed to make this happen. We’re asking for help to make his home safe so he can heal, and so my mom can care for him without fear of something happening again. We know our dad has a strong and loving community around him, and we are so grateful. Any help given—no matter how small—truly makes a difference.
