Hello everyone, my name is Ashley, and this is the short story of my husband Efrain “Jr”.

Back in October 2020, he was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer) after being taken to the emergency room for what we thought was a kidney stone that was too painful. He had a large tumor on his kidney, which was then surgically removed along with his kidney. In November, the cancer had spread to his brain, and then in August 2021, it spread to his lungs. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Renal Cell Carcinoma. Fast forward a few years (marriage and two kids), his cancer popped up again in 2024 with more lesions too dangerously located to operate. This is when his doctors decided chemotherapy and immunotherapy were the only treatments. It was a downward roller coaster; side effects were almost unbearable for him, but he pushed forward for us. After his second immunotherapy treatment, we almost lost him. The treatment was attacking his muscles, and he had to be rushed to the ER again. He had to have his system flushed out from the immunotherapy. After that, his doctor stopped immunotherapy treatment, and he stayed solely on chemotherapy. Fast forward to May 2025, he once again has multiple lesions and what looks like two new large tumors growing (one on his spine and another on his adrenal gland).

My husband is not one to seek financial help, and quite honestly, neither am I. But I have to accept that we will need it. Jr will not be able to work for a long period of time, and I will be the only one supporting our family of four. Our daughter Hayley is only 3 years old and only knows that Papi has a booboo and that’s why he can’t carry her. Our son Alec, who just turned one, is always so happy to see him and reach out to be carried by him. We don’t want them to realize that something bad is happening.
