Hi everyone,
It was recently brought to my attention that a dear friend of mine, Efigenia Macuacua, is facing a very difficult situation that could deeply affect her entire family. Efigenia was unexpectedly detained during a routine asylum interview and now faces the possibility of being sent back to a country torn by political unrest, violence, and religious persecution.
As a Christian, I feel compelled to help my sister in need. Efigenia is the heart of her family — a devoted wife and an amazing mother to two beautiful children. She and her husband, Abdul, share an extraordinary love story that has endured despite the challenges they face. Sadly, their marriage has been condemned in Mozambique because of their religious differences — Efigenia is Christian, and Abdul is Muslim. Both their lives, and their children’s lives, have been threatened because of this.
The family sought asylum here in 2016 and have since been upstanding members of the community. Efigenia is a nurse, admired for her strong work ethic, reliability, and compassion. Unfortunately, she is now in a vulnerable position and needs our support. The legal fees are far beyond what her family can afford, and time is critical — the deadline is November 6th to move forward and request a bond hearing so she can be released and reunited with her children.
It has already been days since she last saw them, and they are her entire world. From one mother to another, and as a fellow Christian, I cannot stand by and watch her struggle alone. Please help Efigenia and her family in any way you can. Every little bit truly makes a difference.
