ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN
Last Woman Standing is an independent post-apocalyptic dark comedy/drama about loneliness, grief, identity, and what it means to keep living after the world you knew is gone.
The series follows Kindra Lawson, a young woman who inexplicably survives a mysterious event that wipes out nearly the entire human population. After months of searching for other survivors, Kindra is forced to accept that she may truly be the last person left alive.
Until Cordelia appears.
Cordelia has Kindra’s face, memories of living inside her mind, and absolutely no explanation for how she became a physical human being. Where Kindra is consumed by everything she has lost, Cordelia is fascinated by everything she has yet to experience.
At its core, Last Woman Standing asks a simple question: Is surviving enough, or do we eventually have to choose to live?
The first episodes of the series have already been created independently, with Episode 2 even screening through a local film collective. Now, we’re raising funds to complete the remaining episodes and finally bring Kindra and Cordelia’s story to its conclusion.
WHO AM I?
My name is Eeve Emmanuel, and I am the creator, writer, director, and lead actor of Last Woman Standing, playing both Kindra and Cordelia.
I created this series because during the pandemic simply because I missed acting. I’m continuing it because I love original and unique stories told by Black artists! I also wanted to explore the apocalypse from a perspective that wasn’t really about monsters, explosions, or saving humanity. I became much more interested in what happens after all of that—when there is nobody left to impress, disappoint, love, resent, forgive, or blame.
Kindra’s story became one about grief, isolation and the strange ways we hold onto our past. Cordelia became the opposite: someone with virtually no past at all, experiencing humanity for the first time and wanting everything Kindra has become afraid to want.
What began as a small independent project has grown into an eight-episode story that I care deeply about completing. I’ve written the remaining episodes, and now the next step is giving them the production resources they deserve.
YOUR SUPPORT WILL HELP US FUND:
CREW — I’m intentionally keeping the production small. Funds will allow us to hire a core crew including a cinematographer/camera operator, sound recordist for dialogue-heavy scenes, and production support so that I can properly direct while also performing two lead roles.
CAMERA & LIGHTING EQUIPMENT — Much of the series relies on Kindra and Cordelia appearing together despite being played by the same actor. We need reliable camera, lens, lighting, and support equipment to maintain continuity and properly capture these scenes, along with the rest of the series.
CAST — The remaining episodes expand Kindra’s world and finally allow audiences to see more of the people she lost before the rapture. Funding will help us fairly compensate the supporting actors bringing those characters to life.
TRANSPORTATION — While much of the series will be filmed in Brooklyn, several major scenes take place at locations upstate. Transportation costs will help us safely move our small crew, cast, and equipment between Brooklyn, and upstate during our shoot.
PRODUCTION COSTS — Meals for cast and crew, props, wardrobe, makeup, practical effects, production supplies, storage media, and all of the less glamorous things that quietly make a film set function.
POST-PRODUCTION — Finishing the series doesn’t end when filming wraps. Funds will also help cover editing, sound, color correction, music, data storage, and the visual compositing needed to place Kindra and Cordelia onscreen together.
CONTINGENCY & PRODUCTION NEEDS — Independent filmmaking always comes with unexpected expenses. A portion of our budget will remain available for equipment issues, additional pickup shots, insurance when required, transportation changes, and other costs that arise during production.
Thank you for helping us bring Last Woman Standing to the finish line!
