Ik ben Tim Stoop (28), een startende ontwerper en bouwer, afgestudeerd als architect aan de TU Delft. Dit jaar ben ik geselecteerd voor Folly Art Norg (27/07-24/08), een wandelroute in het Drentse landschap waarin tijdelijke follies – kleine, verrassende bouwwerken – verschijnen. Hiervoor heb ik een folly ontworpen: ‘Hemelwerk’ – een houten bouwwerk dat bezoekers uitdaagt om anders naar het Nederlandse landschap te kijken.

Wat is Hemelwerk?


Hemelwerk is een houten constructie van 3 meter hoog, geïnspireerd op oude schuren, stallen of vogelkijkhutten. Van een afstand roept het vragen op: Wat is dit? Wat gebeurt daarbinnen? Pas wanneer je dichterbij komt, ontdek je de ingang, de mysterieuze kijkluiken en uiteindelijk – het open dak. Dit dak is het hart van de folly. Het kadert de lucht boven je in, alsof de hemel zelf tentoongesteld wordt. Hemelwerk is een ode aan het over het hoofd geziene, het subtiele, het veranderlijke, en tegelijkertijd een plek voor rust en verwondering.

De folly wordt volledig opgebouwd uit tweedehands en circulaire materialen, verzameld in de regio rondom mijn woonplaats Breda. Met pen-en-gatverbindingen en andere ambachtelijke houtconstructies ontstaat een stevig én demontabel bouwwerk. Alles wordt met de hand gemaakt – onder meer met hamer en beitel – op een manier die duurzaamheid, vakmanschap en precisie samenbrengt.

Waarom een inzamelingsactie?


Hoewel de basisbijdrage van het festival de materiaalkosten deels dekt, heb ik nog steun nodig voor o.a. transport, gereedschappen en kleine bouwkosten. Elke euro helpt om Hemelwerk te verwezenlijken en daarom heb ik jullie hulp nodig!

Waarom dit project steunen?


– Je helpt een jonge maker zijn eerste zelfontworpen en zelfgebouwde folly te realiseren

– Je draagt bij aan het onder de aandacht brengen van circulair bouwen

– Je steunt ambacht, vakmanschap en een diepere verbinding tussen mens en landschap

– Je maakt een publieke kunstervaring mogelijk voor jong en oud

Na afloop van het evenement wordt de folly zorgvuldig gedemonteerd. Alle materialen krijgen een nieuw leven – via hergebruik in andere projecten, donatie aan lokale initiatieven, of als bouwmateriaal voor toekomstige installaties.

I am Tim Stoop (28), an starting designer and builder, graduated as an architect from TU Delft. This year, I have been selected for Folly Art Norg (27/07-24/08), a walking route through the landscape in Drenthe, NL where temporary follies – small, surprising structures – appear. For this, I have designed a folly: ‘Hemelwerk’ – a wooden structure that challenges visitors to look at the Dutch landscape in a new way.

What is Hemelwerk?


Hemelwerk is a wooden construction, 3 meters high, inspired by old barns, stables, or birdwatching huts. From a distance, it raises questions: What is this? What’s happening inside? Only when you get closer do you discover the entrance, the mysterious viewing hatches, and eventually – the open roof. This roof is the heart of the folly. It frames the sky above you. Hemelwerk is an ode to the overlooked, the subtle, the ever-changing, and at the same time, a place for rest and wonder.

The folly is entirely built from second-hand and circular materials collected from the region of where I live. With mortise and tenon joints and other traditional wood constructions, a sturdy yet demountable structure is created. Everything is handmade – using tools such as hammers and chisels – in a way that combines sustainability, craftsmanship, and precision.

Why a fundraising campaign?


Although the festival’s base contribution partially covers the material costs, I still need support for transport, tools, and small building costs. Every euro helps to bring Hemelwerk to life, and that’s why I need your help!

After the event, the folly will be carefully dismantled. All materials will get a new life – through reuse in other projects, donation to local initiatives, or as building material for future installations.
