Help Edward with Medical Expenses
Meet Edward,
Edward is a 56 year old who grew up in Owosso, Michigan. Edward is a fun loving individual who is very artistic and crafty. He loves to read, knit, and spend time with his partner David, whom he just celebrated their 16th year together, and their awesome cats Jasmine and Binx. Ed also loves to spend time reading and studying the Bible following in Gods ways. Ed has led a pretty healthy life for the most part dealing with diabetes (controlled) and Chronic Pain (Controlled) up until the end of 2020. In January, Ed began showing signs of Jaundice and immediately made a doctors appointment. Upon going to the appointment, that same day after test results started returning, Ed was admitted into the Lacks Cancer Center in Grand Rapids and started going through a lot of other diagnostic tests. Ed had 2 stints placed into the pancreas to help rid of the toxins that had already built up due to the mass at the head of the pancreas and obstructing the Bile Duct. Ed will undergo another surgery within next 6-8 weeks to eventually place a permanent stint into the pancreas. Due to extreme pains from the mass on the pancreas, there will be ongoing pain management for him due to the size and location of the mass. Ed was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. His diagnosis is late stage 3 - 4. Unfortunately surgery will not be an option as the mass has wrapped around some of the nerves and arteries as well. The only option that can be done will be chemo/radiation to try to reduce the size of the mass to prolong life. The concern now of course even with his insurances, there are going to be a lot of out of pocket side expenses, running to hospitals, some medication expenses, and of course medical expenses which may not be covered 100% as well as a complete change in foods that he will need to accommodate during this difficult time. His only source of income is disability. Ed’s partner David is the sole income earner as a contract worker in the household, and this too will become a hardship, as David will need to take a lot of time off from his work to help care for Ed. This will be a tough journey for both of them.
