Help Edward Nyahwema have life saving operation
Donation protected
UPDATE: Shortly after posting this story and request for funds, it became clear that Edward's health was deteriorating fast and the need for the operation to take place became urgent. Mrs Penny Beattie, who lives in Harare, very kindly agreed to liaise with the Hospital and Surgeon and has since paid for all these expenses out of her own pocket. Once we receive the funds from GoFundMe we will reimburse Mrs Beattie for the monies she has paid out on Edward's behalf. We have still not reached our target and there are sums oustanding, but with your generosity so far we are on our way to achieving full payment of Edward's treatment. I am delighted to report that Edward is recovering well so thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
When one of the most dedicated and generous teachers in the world is visited by a medical calamaty, people who had the privilege - albeit from afar - to be a small part of his life want to help him.
Edward needs help. One of his kidneys needs to be removed to save his life. In Zimbabwe there is no free healthcare. The cost of the operation is in excess of $8000. He has no chance at all of raising such a sum by himself. If some of us can help, even a little, this would pay for the operation and allow him to continue his valuable work among the orphans and other students. More of his inspirational story is below...
Edward Nyahwema has for decades taught at a rural school in Zimbabwe, latterly as Principal. He has devoted his entire life to his pupils, particularly the many Aids orphans. He would undertake to raise what funds he could to pay their school fees, he would make sure they had at least one meal at school, he would seek medical help for them, he would even take them into his own family if they had no place to sleep. He would go beyond the call of duty. He planted crops to raise funds. Throughout these many trials he retained his faith in humanity and his devotion to his students. Now he needs our help.
