Help Eduardo (Farm at Miller's Crossing) pay for Dialysis

This fundraiser is on behalf of our employee at The Farm at Miller's Crossing, Eduardo Subuyuj Saban.

Eduardo Subuyuj Saban is 53 years old and has worked for our farm for over 17 years. He travels from his home in Guatemala through the H2A visa program. For 8-9 months every year for the last 17 years he has left home to work and support his family.

Many of you know him as the always upbeat and hard-working driver who has delivered vegetables to our CSA’s and Food Pantry customers in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. At the farm, Eduardo has done every task and has always done it well.

After a brief unexplained illness in mid-November of this past year, he was admitted to our local hospital with severe high blood sugar levels and was in ICU for one week. He was diagnosed with type 1, insulin dependent diabetes. Based on his condition this apparently had gone undiagnosed for several years.

As a result, Eduardo’s kidneys no longer function enough for him to survive without dialysis multiple times per week. He will also need insulin and supplies for his diabetic care for the rest of his life.

During his treatment in Hudson, he did have major medical coverage which helped to save his life. However, upon return home to his family in Guatemala, he will not have insurance.

We (Chris and Katie from Millers and Karen from PLG CSA) have set up this GoFundMe account for anyone that is interested and able to contribute towards Eduardo’s ongoing care in Guatemala.

The estimate for his treatment will be around $300/week if he can get the subsidized government care. Every dollar given will go towards the ongoing and burdensome costs of dialysis and insulin that Eduardo will need to live.

All funds will go directly to him. We would like to be able to help him as much as possible so he can manage his diabetes and live well.
