Help Editor Newman Recover From Retina Surgery!
Donation protected
As some of you know, our girl Elizabeth has undergone several major surgeries in both her eyes to address diabetic retinopathy. For those that don't know, diabetic retinopathy is very common, even when those with diabetes are properly managing their blood sugar. It's very serious as it damages the blood vessels in and around the retina and, in Elizabeth's case, the retina in her right eye fully detached. This has led to multiple, costly surgeries in both eyes and a much lengthier recovery than originally anticipated. As of right now, her vision has been seriously compromised and this is obviously impacting every facet of her life. We're hoping to raise some funds to help her with the financial stress caused by a multitude of medical bills, as well as provide some relief for all future treatments (of which there will be many) and generally provide support as she navigates this very complicated situation.
All of that being said, we totally understand that not everyone is in a position to give financially. Elizabeth is not currently able to read or text, but voice text messages or voice messages via social media have been helping her stay in touch. If anyone is inclined to send her a care package or will be in DC, she isn't really out and about but might be up for a visit. Please let us know if you'd like her address.
Elizabeth is vaguely aware this is happening, but we've purposely not posted on social media in an effort to protect her privacy and feelings. That being said, if you're aware of anyone who hasn't received this note, please feel free to via email or private message.
Thanks again for whatever help you're able to give!
