Hello friends, family, and compassionate readers. 

For most people, the New Year is a time for new beginnings. It's an opportunity to start afresh and most people do with a renewed sense of hope and purpose. Sadly, for Edie and her family, this new year came with devastating news - a diagnosis of Stage 2 Throat Cancer. 

My name is Jennifer and I am one of Edie's grandchildren. I'm reaching out because our family needs your financial support and prayers during this difficult time. 

The words "you have cancer" are not unfamiliar to Edie. My grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. Thankfully she was able to beat it but then the unimaginable happened, another diagnosis of cancer. Edie's PET scan detected cancerous cells in multiple lymph nodes in and around her throat. She will have to undergo 7 weeks of both chemotherapy and radiation to treat the cancer (1 day/week for chemo and 5 days/week for radiation). Next week, Edie will get a chemo port placed in her chest, and she will also have surgery to put in a feeding tube. Additionally, Edie is scheduled to meet with a speech pathologist, as treatment will likely impact her speech and ability to swallow. 

The journey ahead of Edie will not be an easy one - there are still a lot of unknowns. For those of you who know Edie, you know that she is resilient. She has too much to live for (3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren). She will not lie down to cancer, but she needs your support. Your donation will go towards medical expenses, those expected and unexpected, along with transportation costs, as her daily commute to the cancer treatment center will be over 2 hours.
