Help Edgard Vasquez Recover from Shooting Incident

On the evening of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, around 10 pm, my Dad (Edgard) and I were just sitting in the parking lot talking in our cars. Nearing the end of our conversation as my dad walks towards his truck a car pulls up out of nowhere and fires towards us. As my father walked back to his car he took cover in front of my car as I remained inside caught off guard at first glimpse I thought it was fireworks I quickly came to a realization that it was not fireworks but indeed gunshots I then, ducked and leaned to my side to take cover.

As I thought it was over I heard the car turn around at the end of the street just for it to come back and continue shooting at the building and our cars. This resulted in a bullet hitting my father’s face through his left cheek and becoming lodged in his throat, narrowly missing his spine, which had to be removed by a surgeon. Unfortunately, one of Edgard’s injuries is particularly severe, and there is a significant chance that he may lose his vision or become visually impaired due to where the bullet landed. This devastating possibility not only affects his health but also his independence.

My Dad Edgard always took great pride in being a hard-working, loving, and attentive father to myself and my sister Elena. In any given situation, he was always the first to give a helping hand, offer up helpful advice, or crack a funny joke. One of his greatest joys was playing soccer in many of the different Toronto-area leagues… including the Spanish leagues, where his fierce playing style on the pitch earned him the nickname “Diablo”.
