Help Me Heal: Support My Kidney Transplant Recovery

I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but here I am—humbled, hopeful, and asking for your help as I navigate one of the most challenging chapters of my life.

After 8 years of battling chronic kidney disease, on April 11, 2025, I underwent a life-saving kidney transplant, a moment that marked both a powerful new beginning and the start of a long, difficult road to recovery. This surgery offers me a second chance at life—more energy, fewer hospital visits, and the hope of a healthier future. But with that gift comes a harsh reality: the financial strain of healing.

Doctors have recommended a minimum three-month recovery period, during which I am unable to return to work. Unfortunately, I’ve already exhausted all my available sick days, including those generously donated by my colleagues from HGMS and LCMS. That means I’ll be on unpaid leave until the end of the school year—June 2025. I now face several months with no income, even as bills continue to arrive—rent, utilities, food, and essential medications.

One of the greatest ongoing costs is my anti-rejection medication, which is critical to the success of the transplant. My monthly co-pay for these medications alone is $380.

For years, I’ve given my heart and energy to helping others, especially in the classroom, guiding students through their challenges. But now, I find myself in need of help.

This transplant gave me the gift of life, but the financial burden is threatening to overshadow that gift. I’m asking for your support so I can focus on healing without the crushing worry of falling behind on bills or losing the stability I’ve worked so hard to maintain. Every dollar raised will go directly toward living expenses, medical costs, and vital medications during my recovery.

Ayúdame a Sanar: Apoya mi Recuperación de un Trasplante de Riñón

Queridos amigos, familiares y almas solidarias,

Jamás imaginé tener que escribir algo así, pero aquí estoy—con humildad, esperanza y la necesidad de pedir su ayuda mientras transito uno de los capítulos más desafiantes de mi vida.

Después de 8 años luchando contra una deficiencia renal crónica, el 11 de abril de 2025 me sometí a un trasplante de riñón que me salvó la vida. Ese día marcó no solo un nuevo comienzo, sino también el inicio de un largo y difícil camino hacia la recuperación. Esta cirugía me brinda una segunda oportunidad: más energía, menos visitas al hospital y la esperanza de un futuro más saludable. Pero junto con ese regalo llega una dura realidad: la carga económica de sanar.

Los médicos han recomendado un mínimo de tres meses de recuperación, durante los cuales no podré regresar al trabajo. Lamentablemente, ya he agotado todos mis días por enfermedad, incluidos los que generosamente me donaron mis colegas de HGMS y LCMS. Eso significa que estaré sin sueldo hasta el final del ciclo escolar—junio de 2025. Me enfrento a varios meses sin ingresos, mientras las cuentas no dejan de llegar: renta, servicios, alimentos y medicamentos esenciales.

Uno de los gastos más altos y constantes es el de los medicamentos antirrechazo, fundamentales para el éxito del trasplante. Solo el copago mensual de estos medicamentos es de $380 dólares.

Durante años he entregado mi corazón y mi energía para ayudar a otros, especialmente en el aula, guiando a mis estudiantes a través de sus propios desafíos. Pero ahora soy yo quien necesita apoyo.

Este trasplante me dio el regalo de la vida, pero la carga financiera amenaza con opacar ese regalo. Les pido su apoyo para poder concentrarme en sanar, sin el temor constante de quedarme atrás con los pagos o perder la estabilidad por la que tanto he trabajado. Cada dólar recaudado irá directamente a cubrir mis gastos básicos, costos médicos y medicamentos vitales durante esta etapa de recuperación.
