Hello! My name is Kaelyn Williams, and I am one of Eddy's grandchildren. As most may know, my grandpa underwent cardiac surgery for a mitral valve replacement a little over 2 weeks ago.

Long story short, there were complications in his surgery and what was supposed to be a 4-6 hour surgery ended up being almost 12. He is now on ECMO to let his heart rest. Unfortunately, at some time he also suffered a stroke and is unable to move the left side of his body. He is now at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.

Yesterday, they removed the ECMO and his heart did not like it. Pretty instantly after the ECMO was removed, his blood pressure tanked and that’s when codes alarmed and about a million people went running and filled his room and outside it. Thankfully, someone came out to explain what was happening. They said that the ECMO must have been masking his heart function yesterday when they did the TEE in the OR, that they thought his heart was doing on its own. His left ventricle is wanting to pump just fine, but the right ventricle won’t pump at all, so it’s filling up too big with blood and won’t pump to the pulmonary artery. They’ve been trying multiple medications and nitrous oxide to open his pulmonary artery bigger and to help that ventricle pump the blood flow through the pulmonary artery. Unfortunately, those are not sustaining, and they’re telling us he needs to be put back on ECMO.

There are a lot of tests being run, and my grandpa will be in STL for a couple more months at the least. Unfortunately, with all the stress from his stay, also comes along the stress of medical bills and hotel stays. As his granddaughter, I am asking for help for not just my grandpa but for my family to help with these funds. Anything will help!
