Help Eddie Spaghetti Run Again

Oh Eddie Spaghetti. What can we say about him. He had a rough start in Pennsylvania. He was terrified, shut down, and a mess. But I felt like there was something more in him. We built a slow bond of trust, and and he's become the most goofy, sweet, and loving dog. Sometimes too goofy. Such a goober he zoomied his way into a $5,000 surgery.

It's been a tough year for us. Naya, my second senior rescue, was diagnosed with Lymphoma in November. That same day I found out that Eddie had a Mast Cell Tumor that would need to be removed. His surgery cost about $1,200 but in the end he was fine! Naya's story didn't have such a happy ending. We had six beautiful months together. And I enjoyed every moment. But in June we said goodbye. I was grateful she picked me for that year and a half. But in the end her treatment was upwards of $5,000, not including her diagnostics. I was lucky enough to get a grant but unfortunately that didn't cover everything. I still don't regret anything.

I still wasn't prepared to see Eddie do zoomies then suddenly lose use of his back leg. It turns out he's completely torn his CCL, Cranial Cruciate Ligament. Think your ACL, but the dog version. It requires surgery to fix it, called a TPLO. Which will cost $5,000-$7,000, then physical therapy afterwards.

To be honest, I feel a lot of guilt even writing this. Working in rescue for as long as I did, I feel very firmly that a pet is your responsibility. You promise to protect them. I feel a little bit like I'm letting him down asking for help. But I also know I gave him the best chance at a great life. And we seem to have had the worst luck this year. I've dedicated my life to working in nonprofits, which means making some concessions. Eddie is the sweetest boy. He's come so far in life and he's only 6. I want to give him this chance to keep on improving and living his best life.
