In Memory of Eddie Odney

On February 6th, at the age of 43, Eddie B. Odney lost his courageous battle against cancer, with Kinga, his wife and best friend, holding his hand. Born in Haiti, Eddie came to America as a toddler. He attended Boston public schools and graduated from UMASS with a degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the Boston Police Department for nine years. In 2012, he met the love of his life, Kinga Lulis.  They married and welcomed their son Jordan in 2019. After leaving the police force, Eddie pursued his dream of opening a restaurant.  He worked tirelessly to design, renovate and create the concept for Acadia Seafood and Bar in Taunton. Eddie had a true flair for Cajan-style dishes, but his proudest accomplishment was his family. Being a father came naturally to Eddie. Reading to Jordan was his favorite thing to do; both father and son knew Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by heart. For most of Jordan’s life, Eddie battled Lymphoma, spending months in and out of the hospital. Kinga and Jordan were always there by his side; they never missed a day. Every morning, Kinga would pack Jordan’s lunch and toys, and they would head to the hospital to be with Eddie. While this was certainly not a traditional childhood for Jordan, it filled Eddie’s final months with so much love. As Eddie fought this horrible disease with all his might, he fought just as heroically to ensure that his beloved family would be taken care of. Listening to Kinga manage a laugh while telling a nurse a story about Jordan, Eddie took his final breath. The family would like to thank the staff at Brigham and Women’s and Dana-Farber, with special thanks to Dr. Armand for his compassion. Eddie also leaves behind his mother Immacula, sister Marie, and brothers Steve and James. A private Memorial Service will be held in his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this GoFundMe.  Thank you for all of your prayers for Eddie along the way.  Please keep Kinga and Jordan in your prayers.
Eddie was recently diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin T-cell Lymphoma.  Eddie and his wife Kinga recently welcomed their first child, the love of their lives.  They also poured their savings into building and opening a Cajun restaurant in Taunton, MA. .  Their life together as a family was just getting started. Working non-stop, Eddie attributed his exhaustion to working around the clock to get the restaurant up and running during the Covid pandemic.  Everything came crashing down in October, when unexpected weight loss made Eddie go to the doctor.  Dana Faber in Boston confirmed the family's worst nightmare: Cancer.

Because this is such an aggressive form of cancer, Eddie is expected to undergo 5 months of chemotherapy,  some of  it as an inpatient for weeks on end.   If that treatment is not effective, he will require a bone marrow transplant.  The family is shutting down the restaurant so Eddie can tackle this disease with all his might.   Kinga will try to find an additional job to fill in the financial gaps.

Eddie and Kinga are reluctant to ask for help, but if there is ever a time, it is now.  Funds raised will help with Eddie's mounting medical costs.  His chemo begins on Oct. 29th; he will close the
restaurant a few days before that.

We know many families are facing financial hardships during this pandemic, but any amount of money will help this family tremendously.   We can't thank you enough for your support .  Most importantly the family asks that you keep them in your prayers.  Thank you so very much.
