Help Eddie Financially With His Second Cancer Surgery

Donation protected
My name is Paige, and I am Eddie’s sister-in-law, as well as the youngest sister of Amy. Writing this is incredibly hard, but I am reaching out to ask for help for someone who means so much to our family.

In October 2024, Eddie underwent HIPEC surgery at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore with Dr. Sardi. The surgery was a huge success and, at the time, made Eddie cancer-free. We were filled with hope and gratitude.

Unfortunately, this month, after a CT scan, Amy and Eddie learned that Eddie’s cancer has returned. There are three tumors, one of which is located around his colon. They were able to speak directly with Dr. Sardi, who explained that while this is a subtle recurrence, it is important not to wait too long to proceed with another HIPEC surgery. He described this surgery as a “cleanup.” Because of the extent of Eddie’s cancer initially, they were told there was a 20–30% chance of recurrence with this type of cancer.

Eddie and Amy also met with a Canadian oncologist and surgeon in London, Ontario. Their recommendation was a “wait and see” approach. To monitor whether the cancer grows or becomes aggressive and reassess in March. Eddie’s case was then presented to the Ontario Tumour Board, who ultimately refused to perform HIPEC surgery in Toronto, the only place in Ontario where it is done. Their concern is the tumor near the colon. They advised that if the cancer appears stable in March, they would take no action and continue monitoring with CT scans every few months. No treatment of any kind was offered in Canada.

Because of this, Amy and Eddie are not wanting to wait and will be traveling to Baltimore, USA to see Dr. Sardi in person on January 9, 2026. Eddie will undergo an MRI, as they are unable to get one in Canada in January. At this time, they are planning for a possible second HIPEC surgery on February 5, 2026, in Baltimore with Dr. Sardi.

Since this surgery must take place in the United States and Amy and Eddie live in Canada, they do not have health insurance coverage for this procedure. The cost of the surgery alone is estimated to be around $175,000 CAD. In addition, they must cover travel expenses and the cost of staying in Baltimore. During the first surgery, the doctor recommended that Eddie remain there for three weeks, which he and Amy did, and we expect something similar this time.

Eddie has been through so much over the last few years. My hope is that Amy and Eddie do not have to carry the heavy burden of financial stress on top of the emotional and mental toll this journey has already taken.

We kindly ask that you keep them in your prayers as they take these next steps. Myself and my sister Amy will continue to keep everyone updated as they walk through this journey for a second time.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, prayers, support, and generosity.

Many Thanks,
Paige
