Aloha and hello, my name is Eddee and I live on the beautiful island of Maui. I am a musician, a veteran, and a man who has spent his life bringing joy to others through music. Music has never just been something I enjoy—it is how I survive, how I heal, and how I connect with people and make a living.
Over the last few years, life has taken turn after turn that I never could have imagined. When the COVID pandemic hit, I lost my livelihood like so many others. When restrictions were lifted, I stepped into a role helping manage a small beach recreation rental business on the west side of the island. We worked hard to rebuild after months of shutdown, hoping tourism would return and that we could stay afloat. Just as things slowly began to improve, tragedy struck our island. The Lahaina wildfires changed everything. Lives were lost, families were displaced, and the heartbeat of our community was forever altered. While the business I worked for was not directly burned, the impact was just as real. Tourism disappeared once again and eventually the owners were forced to close the business for good.
At the same time, my health began to decline. At sixty-three years old and facing serious medical challenges, I made the heartbreaking decision to take early retirement. Social Security alone is not enough to survive. With hope in my heart, I turned back to music—the one thing I know, the one thing I love, the one thing I have always relied on. Then another loss came. My belongings were broken into and my guitars were stolen. These were not just instruments. They were my voice, my livelihood, my way forward. Losing them felt like losing a part of myself.
