Help Ed Rittenhouse Get Urgent Dental Surgery
Donation protected
Update: Ed has done his due diligence. After several expensive consultations with equally staggering price tags he went to the University of the Pacific School of advanced general dentistry. After going over the situation they quoted $7000! A huge difference indeed. The quotes he was given (by Clear Choice and other private dentists) were gouging him for work that didn’t need to be done. The UoP treatment plan will take about 4-6 weeks beginning on 10/02/24.
Until then he is still on a liquid diet.
Update: today Ed went to see the dentist about replacing his missing dental implants. They want $36K to replace a new lower plate. He is currently unable to chew and on a liquid diet. Please help!
I want to share something important with you—my friend Ed Rittenhouse needs urgent dental care after a series of traumatic medical events left him unable to chew or eat solid foods. Each donation, no matter the size, will make a huge difference in getting him back on his feet, so please click the link below to donate or share the link if you can. Thanks!
I started this GoFundMe for one of my oldest friends, Ed Rittenhouse who has endured some serious medical trauma resulting in his inability to work, pay rent, or pay for his medical bills. Currently he is without the ability to chew or eat solid foods and needs urgent dental care which is not covered by his insurance with Kaiser.
On February 14 Ed had a hip replacement at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco. Recovery was going quite well until April 16 when the hip dislocated and he was taken by ambulance to Kaiser. A dislocated hip is excruciatingly painful(it’s comparable to giving birth without anestisa) requiring Fentanyl, and a team of paramedics to get him off the bed and into the ambulance. Once at the hospital, he was given more fentanyl and morphine to allow Dr's to put the hip back in place. Getting the hip into the socket is a procedure that requires that the patient be strapped to the gurney while four doctors physically wrench it back into place. Kaiser sent him home with instructions for minimal movement and bed rest.
A week later, on April 22 it happened again. Again, an ambulance was called and returned to Kaiser to put the hip back again. On May 8 the hip dislocated again. This time, after the procedure, while still immobilized, Ed's body responded to repeated trauma and narcotics and he became violently ill, vomiting uncontrollably while unable to move his lower body.
The surgeon finally presented “revision” surgery and scheduled for May 23rd. On May 21 the hip dislocated for the fourth time! In the ambulance, 175cc’s of fentanyl was administered. At the hospital he was given 80ml of Ketamine. This time, Ed had an extreme reaction to the Ketamine causing him to clench down on his jaw so hard that the screws used to secure the dental implants cracked (he didn't know this at the time). He was then given propofol so the procedure could be finished only to be sent home to come back in 24 hours
for the revision surgery.
The result is that he is now unable to eat solid food. He needs immediate dental surgery which is not covered by insurance. He cannot afford to pay his rent, and has multiple hospital and ambulance bills to pay (each ambulance ride cost $4000 which is not fully covered by Kaiser). His disability insurance claim was denied and he is in the process of refiling . Kaiser is not claiming any responsibility and yes legal council is being sought after. He is unable to work and really needs your help to get him back on his feet. This year has been so unkind to him, please help my friend restore his beautiful smile and his dignity.
