On April 15, Ed Rafael Zevulun Sanchez had a sudden hemorrhage-induced stroke that damaged his brain stem, leaving him unable to talk, eat, or move beyond sometimes looking down. He is at UCLA ICU, and we are trying to get him to a world-renowned clinic in Chicago (the Shirley Ryan Ability Clinic) that deals with this rare condition called locked-in syndrome. Going there is pretty much his only chance at any recuperation. As round-trip medical transport flights cost about $55,000 and he will then need home modification ($15,000) and out-of-pocket stem cell treatments and ongoing care ($30,000), we are turning to those who know and love him to please help make his care possible.
