Help Me With Funding Needed for Medical Expenses, Travel, Lodging, Food and Care not covered by insurance.

Aloha - my name is Ed Sancious. I am reaching out to ask for your support. I will need to travel from my home (in Hawaii) to California at the end of May so that I can have a specialized surgery. The support I am requesting is for travel, lodging, living expenses and medical care not covered by insurance; prior to and while recovering from surgery.

My Medical Journey

Five months ago, I was diagnosed with Zenker’s Diverticulum — a bulge or pouch forms at the top of the esophagus, making it difficult to swallow food and liquids. The condition is not common (it happens most often to men over 60) and carries the constant threat of choking, regurgitation, and potential asphyxiation. It also makes sleep very difficult. It typically affects older adults and requires surgical treatment if symptoms become severe.

After consulting with several physicians and undergoing three surgical procedures here in Hawaii, the issue remains unresolved and has worsened.

I've been referred to Stanford Health Care Hospital in Palo Alto, where a top physician has pioneered new surgical treatments, This surgery offers the best chance for my recovery and return to a normal, active life.

Why I ask your support

I’m retired and living on a fixed income. In recent years, I have needed hip and knee replacements and spinal surgeries, and these have depleted my savings.

What Your Donation Will Cover

The financial burden of this medical journey extends beyond just the procedure itself:

• Travel expenses: Airfare and transportation to Redwood City, California

• Accommodation: 2-3 weeks of lodging near the hospital for both pre-operative appointments and post-surgery recovery

• Daily expenses during my stay

• Medical costs: Procedure-related expenses not covered by insurance, including any specialized follow-up care

• Recovery supplies: Equipment and medications needed during rehabilitation
