As many of you know, on July 8th my dear friend Ed Christie was diagnosed with late Stage 3 adenocarcinoma esophageal cancer at the GI junction.
The diagnosis came after surgery to correct a small hiatal hernia, which was thought to be causing his symptoms. While still in the hospital recovering from surgery, the pathology done prior to surgery, returned as positive for cancer.
Ed was immediately referred to a medical team specializing in cancer of the esophagus. On August 25, he began a chemotherapy and radiation regimen, that would include 26 radiation treatments & 5 chemotherapy sessions.
The treatments have left Ed very ill. He has had 4 hospital admissions, and a staggering 70 pound weight loss. He is now living on nutrition and calories provided solely by a feeding tube. The chemotherapy and radiation regimen was something of a successful failure, in that it prevented metastasis, but failed to reduce the tumor size and left him malnourished and very weak.
Ed will have an esophagectomy on November 13, to remove his esophagus, and repurpose his stomach. This is a major surgery with a lengthy recovery time.
This illness has taken it’s toll, not only physically, but financially as well. His fiancé, Jen has become the sole provider for their combined family of 6.
As you know, an all encompassing medical situation like this is, even with insurance, is extremely expensive and the financial implications of this tragedy are already mounting.
What do you do when one of your closest friends tells you “I have cancer”? Well, in our case, you get scared, you cry, you get angry, then you go into action mode. What can I do to help? What is he going to need? How can I help make the biggest impact? The answer that I came to is to bless Ed and his family financially. I have received calls, text messages, & private messages from so many of our mutual friends wanting to help, specifically asking if there would be a Go Fund Me set up.
So today, I am asking you to help me bless Ed and Jen so that they can save worry about finances through this challenge, and use that energy to fight the beast that is CANCER.
All donations will go towards supporting Ed and Jen, and their 4 children while they face the physical, emotional and financial challenges of this very difficult time.
Any & all gifts will be so very appreciated, along with all the prayers you have to spare.
Thank you all so much
