Help Ed Alvarez Conquer His Biggest Fight
Donation protected
Ed Alvarez was born in the south Bronx. Outside the walls of his home, it looked like a war zone. He survived. He worked in different jobs, and at every one in his career, people around him would be struck by his kind and generous demeanor. He never asked for help. At one point he lived in a room sharing a refrigerator and amenities, but you would never know it because Ed was always clean shaven with newly pressed clothes and a cheerful disposition. He survived.
Ed’s work ethic is one of thorough professionalism. Some might call him meticulous. Ed has always had an eye for detail, and, through his life, he sought a place where he could be heard and respected without bringing undue attention to himself. He wanted above all to become the vehicle where other’s stories could be heard. His ultimate goal was to have a positive impact on his community. He found it in photography. Through the camera lens, you don’t see the photographer, you see the subject and how we are all interconnected, living together, sharing the same air.
Recently, Ed had a port surgically placed in his chest for easier accessibility for chemotherapy treatment. Less than three hours later, an elderly woman needed assistance and he stood and reached out his arms to assist her. In one small gesture, Ed demonstrated what we all know of him: he’s there to offer help to anyone in need.
At this point in his journey and for the first time in his 57 years, he’s turning the focus on himself and asking for assistance as he faces the battle ahead. Diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer, he’s asking for support to assist him to and from Memorial Sloan Kettering in Westchester County, chemotherapy, and other unplanned expenses. Any and all donations are of great support as Ed, alone no longer, faces his biggest battle. We hope that his community can gather around him. We’re all in this together. Let’s help him survive.
