Ecuador’s future is at risk.

After 31 days of violent repression and criminalization of Indigenous land defenders, President Daniel Noboa has launched a popular referendum that threatens to dismantle Ecuador’s 2008 Constitution.

  • Voting will take place on Sunday, November 16th.

The 2008 Constitution is a global landmark: it was the first in the world to recognize the rights of nature, enshrining a vision of harmony between people and the Earth. It also guarantees collective rights for Indigenous, and Afro-descendant communities, ensures direct participation from the People, and establishes free healthcare and education.

Now, these achievements are under threat. Among the referendum’s proposals is one that would allow foreign military — particularly the U.S. — to establish bases in Ecuador under the promise of “security.” If passed, this would reverse the victory of 2008 and open the door once again to imperialist intervention.

What is this fundraiser for?

This fundraiser is to support an indigenous-led youth collective in their efforts to print and mass-distribute an educational Zine that informs voters and mobilizes communities about the forthcoming referendum.

  • Their call for support is URGENT, as they need to mobilize more voters before the polls close on November 16th.

Why does it matter?

The proposed constitutional changes could weaken Ecuador’s environmental protections, silence Indigenous voices, and dismantle one of the world’s most advanced Rights of Nature frameworks.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa wants to rewrite the constitution, viewing the 2008 document as an obstacle to business development and his aggressive fight against transnational drug cartels. His critics, including environmentalists and Indigenous leaders, argue Noboa is using security concerns to dismantle hard-won rights and accelerate mining and oil extraction, explains Katie Surma

The proposed changes not only undermine environmental protection for some of the most precious ecosystems on the planet, but present serious challenges to Ecuadorian democracy and the rule of law.

  • Please help them to spread truth, protect the Constitution, and keep Ecuadorian free from imperial intervention.

Why a Zine?

In this critical moment, access to truthful information is power. Misinformation, fear, and political manipulation have left many Ecuadorians uninformed about what’s truly at stake.

That’s why this educational Zine has been created that clearly explains the dangers of this referendum and calls on communities to vote NO to all questions.

The Zine is more than paper — it’s a tool of resistance, dialogue, and empowerment. It’s written in accessible language, filled with artwork and analysis, and rooted in love for land and people.

How You Can Help?
Money is urgently needed to print and mass distribute thousands of Zines across Ecuador — from urban neighborhoods to rural territories. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us reach more families, more youth, more communities that deserve to know the truth.

Your donation will go directly toward:
  • Printing and materials for mass distribution
  • Transportation and coordination with local volunteers
  • Free educational workshops accompanying the Zine launch

  • "If we lose this moment, we risk losing not just a Constitution, but the collective dream it represents — of a sovereign, dignified, and just Ecuador."
