Echo is my newly adopted cat, and she’s already shown so much resilience in her short life. I brought her home just two weeks ago, knowing she had a stuffy nose and had recently finished antibiotics. Unfortunately, her symptoms hadn’t actually improved, and she was sneezing blood. The vet believes this is a severe flare-up of the herpesvirus that took her eyes when she was a kitten. We started her on doxycycline to prevent bacterial infections and famciclovir to calm the virus, but nothing has helped so far.
Echo has already been to the vet three times, undergone respiratory PCR testing, and tried several medications, but her condition remains unresolved. Today, she needs to see an internal medicine specialist for a camera nasal exam and possibly a polyp removal to find out what’s causing her symptoms and how to stop them. The vet has also mentioned that Echo may need a CT scan to get a clearer picture of what’s going on in her sinuses. I got insurance for her the day I adopted her, but none of this is covered because it’s considered a pre-existing condition. I’ve also reached out to the rescue I adopted her from to see if they could help, but they haven’t responded or even provided her medical records for the treatments they had done for her prior to my adopting her.
As a disabled single mom with a child who has developmental disabilities, I do my best to prepare for regular and emergency vet bills, but this situation is more than I can afford, especially after a recent cut to my fixed income. The funds raised will help cover Echo’s medicines, treatments, and testing she’s already had, as well as the upcoming specialist visit, procedures, and a CT scan if needed. Any support you can offer would mean the world to both of us as we try to give Echo the healthy, happy life she deserves.
